Principal Announced for Haygood Elementary

Cross Creek West’s newest elementary school, Haygood Elementary, is opening this fall off Fulshear Bend Drive, and campus leadership has already been named.
Lamar Consolidated ISD announced Dr. Troy Bethley will serve as Haygood’s founding principal, following his time as principal at LCISD’s Smith Elementary nearby in Richmond.
Bethley has more than 25 years of experience in education, including as a teacher and assistant principal. He holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in education with his doctoral degree in educational leadership from the University of North Texas-Denton.
Hailey Wied will serve as assistant principal at Haygood Elementary this fall.
Elementary students in Cross Creek West will move from Huggins Elementary for the 2024-25 school year to Haygood Elementary for the 2025-26 school year, based on LCISD’s approved attendance zones.
Haygood Elementary is named for former LCISD teachers and the late husband-and-wife duo James “Dick” Richard and Marinella Haygood who served the local community in a number of ways over the years. Construction of the new school is funded through the district’s $1.5 billion bond package that voters approved in 2022. Serving students in pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade, the school will have 46 classrooms and an extensive 4,200-square-foot library.
As LCISD is a quickly growing school district; the 2022 bond package also included funds for acquiring land for additional schools. Following Haygood’s opening, LCISD owns 100 acres in Cross Creek West for at least two more schools, with the complex expected to open in August 2027.
